ASEAN Info Kiosk launched in Panabo

PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte – In line with the Philippines’ chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Philippine Information Agency XI (PIA) and the City Information Office of Panabo formally opened the ASEAN Information Kiosk on Friday, May 26.
The installation of the information kiosk at the lobby of Panabo Integrated Bus Terminal exhibits information materials that will equip the public on the unified organization, as well as the Philippines’ ASEAN chairmanship that coincides with the 50th ASEAN Anniversary celebration.
Meanwhile, City Mayor James G. Gamao expressed his full support to the objectives of the intergovernmental cooperation of Southeast Asian nations.
“Let it be known that the City of Panabo supports the noble objectives and thrusts of the ASEAN and will actively promote the values it espouse. The City of Panabo is here to embrace the culture of inclusive growth through international integration,” Gamao said.
Since this venture advocates possible opportunities for Filipinos in the ASEAN community, the launching also featured speakers from national line agencies to provide credible input that might be of help to Tatak Panabo producers, terminal stall owners, market officials and representatives who attended the event.
Maria Victoria Adriatico of the Department of Trade and Industry Davao del Norte and Lim Ongoy of the Department of Labor and Employment discussed marketing strategies for investment competency and employment opportunities respectively. On the other hand, Capt. Alex Alod of the 10th CMO Battalion Task Force Haribon talked over the importance of maintaining peace and security in building a community of opportunities among ASEAN nations.
Apart from the useful information on the community pillars of ASEAN that focuses on political security, socio-cultural, and socio-economic, the information kiosk will showcase materials on the different advocacies and programs of the national and local government to promote transparency and accountability, and provide awareness to the general public.
According to the City Information Officer, Michael Angelo Resueño, there is a possibility that the PIA and CIO will put up another information kiosk in the city.
“The Bus Terminal is one of our strategic locations to spread awareness of ASEAN, as well as local and national campaign initiatives against drugs and other government programs. Hopefully, with the support of our private partners, we can open more information kiosks to promote knowledge and participation among our Panaboans,” Resueño said.
