Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), successfully held the RIPPLE Ocean Tech Innovation Conference to advance the Blue Economy Underpinning Global Sustainability Through Adaptive Innovation (BUNSAI). The event took place on August 1, 2025, at Molave Hotel, Tagum City, under the theme โOcean Tech Innovations for the Blue Economy in the Davao Region.โ

The BUGSAI Technology Business Incubator supports startups and emerging technology-based enterprises through training, mentoring, and funding access to promote growth in the ocean economy.

The conference covered a wide range of topics, including Fisheries, Aquaculture, Shipping and Maritime Trade and Logistics, Climate and Disaster Resilience, Marine Protection, Preservation and Conservation, and Renewable Ocean Energy.

As a coastal city in Davao del Norte, Panabo City holds great potential in the Fisheries and Environmental Protection sectors. However, challenges such as overfishing, pollution, and coastal development have underscored the need to align with the principles of the Blue Economy โ the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth while preserving the health of marine ecosystems.

One of the featured guest speakers was Forester Recson Engalgado, Environment Management Specialist II from Panabo CENRO, who gave a talk during the Deep Dive on Marine Protection, Preservation, and Conservation session.

With the use of blue economy technologies, communities can achieve a sustainable environment, create job and income opportunities, and ensure minimal harm to marine ecosystems.

The event was also participated in by DOST-DNSC TBI partner agencies including DTI, DOST, BFAR, DICT, MinDA, DNSC-DRRMC, and LGU Panabo, with representatives from CENRO and CAGRO-Fisheries in attendance.
