September 4, 2025 – The launching of the Senior High School Program for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and DepEd Panabo City Division ALS was conducted to grant PDLs the opportunity to continue and complete their education.
The program was held inside the Panabo City District Jail Mini-Gym, Barangay Salvacion, Panabo City, in line with the literacy initiative entitled “Tagapangalaga Ko, Guro Ko”.
District Jail Warden JCINSP Jul Akbar L. Jamiri led the activity, expressing his hopes for the success of the learners and delivering a message to the 51 official Senior High School PDL learners during the celebration. As he stated, “Personal sacrifice and perseverance are the keys to a brighter future.”
The PDLs will also be taught vocational courses such as welding, cookery, and maintenance and installation. This is aimed at providing a pathway for rehabilitation, helping PDLs transform and avoid returning to crime.
City Councilor Hon. JM Relampagos, the Chairman of the Committee on Education, was also present at the launching. He delivered a message on behalf of City Mayor Jose E. Relampagos, stating that education is a powerful tool that one can carry with them—something no one can ever take away.
Also in attendance were personnel from DepEd Panabo City ALS, including coordinators, principals, and ALS teachers who will be instructing the Senior High School PDL learners.
